Opt-In List Building - Understand This and You Will Build a Profitable Home Based Business
It's common knowledge that opt-in list building is one of the pillars of building a home based internet business. As one writer says, "The list is your business." But why is it then that so few who are starting an internet business actually do their own opt-in list building?
This is the first in a series of three articles on this subject. In this article I answer the question, "What exactly is a list?" A clear understanding of what a list is and its strategic role in building an online business is foundational to building a quality email list. Secondly, I address the question of "quality." Many advertize ways of building a huge list, but few address the question of insuring the "quality" of the list. The difference between having a mediocre list and a quality list is huge! The latter will make you so much more money. The third article answers the question, "Why give opt-in list building priority?" I will be showing you some hard facts on the relationship between list building and money making.
By the end of this article, you should have a clear understanding of what opt-in list building actually is and have several images that will help you visualize the strategic role of list building in starting an internet business.
Definition of "Opt-In Building"
What is variously called an "opt-in list", an "email list" or just a "list" is the data base of people, their names and email addresses, that are interested in you and in your niche. They are the people who like what you provide and are willing to hear from you periodically. These people are looking for information about any one of hundreds of subjects (the best cell phone to get or how to use auto-responders or whatever) You make a value exchange with them. You offer them information, in the form of a report, a newsletter, a course, etc in exchange for their name and email.
The reason for this is that statistically 95% of customers will not buy a product the first time they look at it. They visit your site and see your offer and then are gone, likely forever! You want a chance to put it before them periodically. It is said that it takes about 7 exposures for the average buyer to make up their mind to buy. Furthermore, even those who don't buy might be interested in other products that you will offer in the future. You'd like the chance to continue to give this interested group of people, your opt-in list, information of value and expose them to other products that would serve them. That's the theory of an email list.
The way to do opt-in list building is by offering an information product (an e-book or a subscription to a newsletter) on a "squeeze" page where they must give their name and email to get your offer. Or there might be a registration form on a home page of a website to get the product.

It is your audience. You have to grow your audience otherwise you have no one to sell to and you make no money. · A List Is a Beeper to Remind Your Audience That You Are Available to Serve Them. It takes time to build a relationship. The saying, "Out of sight, out of mind" is still true of people. Hence, your opt-in list provides you with a way of regularly getting the attention of your loyal audience of customers. You keep reminding them of products you offer and of value you want to give them.
· A List Is a Key That Opens the Door to Success. You're starting an internet business. Your goal is to make money with the hope of one day replacing your job income and permitting you to retire or some such goal. The two most important assets for being successful in your home based internet business is first "information" and second "your email list". Without information you have nothing to offer people to make them want to be on your email list. But just as important, you may have lots of good information, but if you have no list, or a small list, or even a mediocre large list you still can't make much money. So your opt-in list building is your key to making good money on the internet.
You now understand what opt-in list building is and you have these three visual images which graphically illustrate the role of an email list: 1) the list as audience to sell to, 2) the list as beeper to remind loyal members of your offers, and 3) the list as key to making good money online. The 5 Biggest Mistakes Made by New LLCs
Mistake #1 Doing Business Before the LLC is Formed.
You are personally liable for any business activities or transactions that take place before your LLC is formed. A person can sue you years later for something you did today. If your business becomes successful, those early acts could cause you to be the subject of a personal lawsuit. Don't think it has not been done. With over 70,000 lawsuits filed a day, this world is filled with people and their predatory litigation attorneys looking for successful small businesses to attack.
Mistake #2 Failing to Actually Issue Ownership Interests in the LLC.
Many business owners create an LLC but never actually issue ownership interests (known as Membership Units) to the persons that are going to be owners of the LLC (known as Members). It can be easy for you mistakenly think that because you created the LLC, you are automatically the owner of the LLC. The fundamental premise of an LLC is that it is its own separate entity. When an LLC is formed by a state agency, it does not have owners. Membership Units or a percentage interest in the LLC must be issued to the persons who will be the owners. This issuance transaction should be in writing. The LLC Operating Agreement is the typical place where the LLC issues shares to Members. Make sure that after your LLC is formed, you complete this next step.
Mistake #3 Failing to Create a Management Structure.
An LLC needs to have a management structure. A management structure determines who has the authority to make decisions on behalf of the LLC. There are two management structures. A member-managed LLC is when the members automatically have the rights to operate and manage the LLC business. The second is a manager-managed LLC which creates a corporate type structure. A Board of Managers is created and persons who are appointed to that Board have the authority to run the business. The best place to create a management structure is in the LLC's Operating Agreement. All LLC's should have an Operating Agreement as this agreement creates the set of rules for your LLC.
Mistake #4 Failure to Get Investment Obligations in Writing.
The LLC Acts of most states require that all agreements by a Member of an LLC to contribute money to the LLC must be in writing. An oral agreement is not enforceable under the law. If you are planning on starting a new business with other persons, you will likely get together and decide on how much of the business each of you will own and on what obligations each of you are agreeing to with respect to that business. Obligations usually include how much money you are each going to contribute to the business or what kind of services and time commitment each of you will devote to the business.
These conversations take place but in many multi-member LLCs, they are never placed in writing. Without a writing, any oral promises are not enforceable. If you issue Membership Units based on an oral promise and the Member fails to deliver, you cannot take back the Units.
Mistake #5 Thinking that an LLC is a Foolproof Layer of Liability Protection
Yes, it is established that a Member of a properly formed and maintained LLC is not liable for the debts, obligations and lawsuits of the LLC merely by being a Member of the LLC. But, in a realistic business context, persons who are Members are usually not passive owners of the LLC. They are also active managers and operators of the LLC business.
In today's litigious world, all businesses should be run through a limited liability entity such as an LLC. The LLC liability protection is a significant protection vehicle. However, the LLC layer of protection does not extend to all potential liabilities that can arise in the midst of running an LLC. Do your homework in performing the administrative and other tasks of your LLC and retain the proper professionals to advise you when appropriate. There are certain standards and formalities you need to meet or else you run the risk of being personally liable (this risk is known as piercing the veil risk).
The LLC laws do not cover personal negligence. Your LLC should always have insurance to cover these types of business related accidents. Do not ever think that the LLC is enough to protect you in these circumstances. Similarly, there are some laws that hold you liable regardless of whether you are operating through an LLC. The most obvious one that might apply is if you are a licensed professional. Doctors, lawyers, accountants, real estate brokers and dentists, for example, are always personally liable for acts of malpractice. If you are a licensed professional, make sure you get the proper insurance. Also, there are certain tax, environmental and securities laws that you can be held personally liable for if your LLC is in violation of those laws and you were the responsible manager.
Finally, you cannot use your LLC to engage in fraud or hide behind the LLC to protect yourself when you engage in fraudulent or unlawful acts. If you break the law or try to defraud others, the law will hold you personally accountable.
In summary, the LLC is a wonderful vehicle for providing Members with limited liability protection. But, in order to preserve that protection, you cannot just form an LLC and then forget it exists. Make sure you do the necessary things to honor your LLC as a separate entity and also know that the LLC should not be your sole means of protection- get insurance when it makes sense and always invest in the required knowledge for operating your business which includes getting the right help when needed in your business!

What is a newsletter? Simply put it is a communication between you and your subscribers. By offering information that the client may find helpful, you are offering a service to them that is of value. Hmmm how many secrets to give away in a free book :). Oh well, why not! The cost is dependent on how many other people want to be in the top listing. For example: Overture.com has agreements with Yahoo, MSN, AOL and others that the 3 top bidders for keywords will be listed in the top 3 spots for that keyword on each of these search engines. By the way, as of December 2002 those 3 search engines accounted for over 80 percent of all searches on the web. Think that might be a nice place to have your website listed? Ok, back to the example. Let’s say I sell training, I research the keywords and find out that the top 3 positions go for $1.50, $1.45, $1.00 per click to my website. I have a product that sells for $795 per course. I could bid $1.51 and take the top spot. But remember I will have to pay the PPC for each person that clicks on my link. It can quickly run into the hundreds of dollars. I could also pay $1.01 and take the 3rd position saving me $.50 per click. Not all keywords are that expensive...some are more :). Actually you may find your keywords very inexpensive around 10- 20 cents per click.
PPC also do not care about keywords, titles, headers, content etc. So I can write a more compelling description here that will call to action the searcher to click on my site. BUT, once there I want to do everything I can to get them to leave their email address in exchange for my free product or gift. I do not want them coming back though PPC again. It will cost me more money that way. If I have their email address I can send them my link in other correspondence. We will talk about that later in auto responders.

Looking After Your Hearing Aids

When removing your hearing aid before you go to bed you should carefully wipe down with a soft dry cloth or tissue. You should also spend some time inspecting the part of the hearing aid that fits into the ear canal as it is likely that a accumulation of ear wax may have occurred. If this is the case then you will have to remove the wax. When you purchased the hearing aids you should receive a cleaning tool which can be used to do this which usually takes the form of a wire pick or a brush or you could also use a toothbrush.

However, the main difference being that the ear mould which fits into the ear which is usually made of Lucite or silicone which is non-electrical and therefore can be washed in mild soapy water. Before washing it is important to ensure the earpiece is disconnected from the behind the ear section to ensure the electrical part of the hearing aid does not get wet. Dry the ear piece correctly before using and also ensure that the tube is clear of water. Please note that the tube may need to be replaced after a period of time usually 3 to 6 months as the flexibility may be lost.
Things not to do...
1. Wash the hearing aid with solvents or alcohol as this may cause the materials from which the aid is made to break down. You can purchase special cleaning fluids designed to clean hearing aids.
2. Don't let the electrical part of the hearing aid get wet. Avoid wearing the aid when showering of bathing.

Comparing Hearing Aids For the Better Sound Quality
If you have to get a hearing aid, you want to make sure that you are getting one that is going to keep the sound as true to life as possible. When you see the many different models that are available, you may think that you are shopping for a car instead of a hearing aid. Before you make a final decision, make sure you compare hearing aids for the best sound quality to suit your needs.
There are basically two different types of sound quality that you will have to choose from when you are looking at hearing aids. You can choose a more traditional hearing aid that has analog sound or you can go high tech with a digital hearing aid.

If not, the extra money will be well worth it if you are going to be using it every day. For someone that is only putting it in now and again, it could be a waste of money, but the clarity of sound and the lack of feedback make this a very desirable choice.
Again, it really all comes down to preference and need. When you want to compare hearing aids, the analog will give you the better price, but less sound quality. You will pay a few dollars more for the digital, but if you are using it every day, the money will be well worth it . . .

If for any reason a subscriber requests to leave your list or is unable to unsubscribe themselves, take time to manually remove them from your list. This one simple step will ensure that your list is kept clean and in compliance with spam laws.
While in the process of building your opt-in list, remember that your reputation means everything. In a traditional brick-and-morter business where you can
